Advanced/Other WiFi Settings

Within the WiFi settings, you can access advanced options that enhance the full potential of TP-Link Omada APs and Controller software. This article will highlight some of the most relevant and useful features and provide guidance on how to utilise them effectively.

SSID Broadcast:

This option toggles SSID visibility for WiFi client devices, useful for non-public networks like those for cash registers/tills. Connect WiFi devices during setup, then hide the SSID for added security.

VLAN:

This enables the assignment of a VLAN ID to a specific SSID, effectively segregating WiFi clients into distinct subnets and broadcast domains. This enhances both security and network performance. For detailed setup instructions, please refer to this article.

Client/SSID Rate Limit Profile:

Depending on your desired outcome, you can limit WiFi speeds on a per-client basis or share bandwidth across the entire SSID. Using the drop-down menu, you can either configure a Custom Rate Limit Profile or create a new profile that can be applied to multiple networks.

WLAN Schedule:

This option allows you to schedule SSID availability throughout the day or week, enhancing security by disabling the SSID outside of working hours to reduce unauthorized access attempts and conserve power drawn from the access point.

MAC Filter:

This option allows you to control which clients can connect to an SSID based on their MAC addresses. You can set up restrictions in two ways:

  • Allow List: Only the MAC addresses specified in this list are permitted to connect to the SSID.
  • Deny List: MAC addresses included in this list are blocked from connecting to the SSID, while all other addresses are allowed.
